Closet Makeover – Teen Edition

I have finally, finally gotten around to starting/finishing Bonnie’s closet makeover.  I finished up her room over two years ago and have been putting this closet off for a while now for some reason.  I decided to do it when we we’re sleeping in Charlie room, because our bathroom was being remodeled, and we had none of our stuff in our room and Charlie was sleeping in the guest bedroom and just decided Bonnie needed to be misplaced as well. And honestly, in the end, it dint’ take that long and was totally worth it.

I started by clearing everything out.  I really never cared for super deep flat shelves.  Things tend to just get piled up and lost.  They looked like this most of the time.  I need an organization plan for them.  I also wanted a little desk space for Bonnies sewing machine and photo printer.  So, I started by removing one of the shelves completely and moving another one down to allow for desk space.

Next up in this closet makeover, I finally put together these two dressers I bought from Ikea two years ago.  One of the reasons Bonnie’s clothes were always a mess is because of the horrible little plastic things she was using as a dresser.  After a lot of moving the dressers in and out and decided on a placement for them, I pulled them back out and got to painting.  I picked colors to match the rest of her room, so now this whole space seems way more cohesive.

After I stared to get it all put back to there, I realized there was not really a good place to store her shoes, so I ordered this tall shoe rack from Amazon and it honestly is my new favorite way to store shoes. It just works so much better than the whole “storing them on a rack”plan.

That’s pretty much it.  I added some more of my favorite little organization tools to help out with all Bonnie’s accessories.

Robes are hanging on these simple hooks behind the door.

I love this little rack for organinzing bags and backpacks.  I wanted the picture to sit on top, but it wasn’t quite wide enough for this picture, so I had to hang it instead.

Speaking of this picture, I bought one of these maps for each of my kids years ago and I love it.  It’s a state picture map of all the states we’ve been to.  You can print them out sized already at home and place them right on the map.  So easy and I made sure to incorporate it into their closet makeovers!

Bonnie loves headbands and I had been looking forever for a way and I finally found these little handy dandy headband hangers on Amazon and they are perfect.  Plus, as she collects more I can just grab a few more.  They take up hardly any space and you can see them easily.

I wanted an easy way to organize all of her craft knick knacks and these cheap little shoeboxes from Amazon have been perfect.

A few more upgrades, I replaced the old fluorescent light with a new fixture from Lowes and I dressed up the Ikea dressers with these knobs that I used on her vanity counters to bring everything together a little more.

That’s about it.  One more before and after of our teen closet makeover.
