Courtyard Makeover – The Reveal – ORC Spring 2017

The time has come for the final reveal of this round of the One Room Challenge and I’m so excited to show you guys what we’ve done with this space. ย We’ve worked super hard over the past six weeks and we are so happy to have this courtyard makeover done. ย Well, almost done. ย I still have a couple of projects to do out here, but for now it is such a huge improvement over the way it was before. ย We are no longer embarrassed to have people come over. ย Let’s take a look…

In case you missed it, we are participating in the One Room Challenge from Calling it Home. ย I, along with my other blogger buddies, were challenged to update a room in six short weeks. ย This courtyard was in desperate need of a facelift. Here is where we started six weeks ago.

It was a overgrown mess. ย We didn’t really have any style or reason to sit out here. ย It was not only overgrown, but infested with bugs, snakes and lizards. ย The bushes were dead or brown most of the year and we even had a couple of bunnies living out here. ย As cute as those guys were, we needed to clean this space out. ย So, we opted for a more modern, almost maintenance free space. ย Without further ado..the courtyard reveal.

I think this is my husband’s favorite room so far.

I have to give a huge thank you to my sponsors for the project.

I love Wayfair.com. ย If you haven’t ordered from them, you have to check them out. ย We bought our living room couch set from Wayfair and we love it. ย They have tons of customer reviews, which to me, is way more telling than sitting on a piece for 5 min in a store. ย For this project, I picked these comfy, modern and totally affordable dining chairs for our table. ย They are the perfect look and style for this space. Check out all their patio options here.

We also worked with LampsPlus for these amazing lamp posts. ย They totally change the look of the space. I knew instantly when we started this space we needed some lamp posts and I love them. ย We did have our electrician run the wiring and you can read more about that here. ย He installed some sensors on them, so they come on at dusk and we love the added security of having some light on this space.

We also received this fountain from LampsPlus and love the added water sounds it adds. ย Plus, it fits in perfectly with this space.

Quikrete provided the concrete mix for our table top. ย I’ll have a tutorial up next Monday and can’t wait to show you how I made this table. ย And how I accidentally created this cracked effect that I ended up loving.

  1. My gosh April, what a transformation! You rocked this challenge…I mean literally and figuratively! Hehe. Not only does the yard look fantastic, it also looks so easy to maintain. I bet your guests will be so floored by this change! Congrats!

  2. I love everything about this space so much! Our backyard has been a struggle from day 1 and you so just inspired me to really work on it! Those string lights and the rock garden really add a lot. I’m off to check out your tutorials now ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. Awesome. You finish projects so fast! I get energized with an idea, but a bunch of crap, get 10% in, then let it sit for 6 months. Trina, loves that!…

Did you get a big load of rocks delivered or did you have to use a zillion bags?

    1. Haha! I actually went to the construction site and they dumped a bunch into the back of my truck then I backed the truck into the courtyard and we shoveled them out. It took about 8 truckloads of dirt and then two truckloads of rock to fill this space. Because we did it ourselves, it only cost about $160 for the dirt and rock. And I don’t have a day job, so I work on this stuff all day when kids are at school, which gives me a little advantage ;).

      1. What type of account do I have to make to be able to have a profile with a picture? I don’t see anywhere to “sign up”. Is it a Blogger account?

        1. I use WordPress, not blogger. I think you have to have a gravatar that is associated with the email you use when you comment.

  4. The difference in this space is amazing. I immediately fell in love with the planter boxes. Of course, I love everything you build. I’m on pins and needles for your tutorials to post. Every project is a total winner. Congrats on a great makeover. Now it’s time to enjoy! susie form The Chelsea Project

    1. Thanks so much Susie! I am trying to get motivated to write the tutorials, but of course I just want to nap and watch Netflix right now, haha.

  5. Oh, It looks so good! I especially love the look of the planters with the house numbers! I may have to steal that idea! You did so much work and it payed off!

  6. I am so envious of your courtyard! I love the low-maintenance aspect, and that you’ve created some great spots for eating, lounging & entertaining! Amazing work, as usual ๐Ÿ˜€

  7. Hey April … what a beautiful DIY project! Congratulations …

I have to tell you … I envy you a little bit because of that beautiful dinning area you’ve created in the garden. I loooove to stay in the garden, have a glass of red wine with my wife or just chilling by myself reading or listening music … but I don’t have a garden ๐Ÿ™‚

Where I leave at the moment I have a 2×2 meters balcony ๐Ÿ™

    Excellent work!
