Custom Wood Signs & More, My X-Carve is here!
I’m so excited to be opening a shop very soon with custom wood signs and more. Details below on what’s coming.
I’ve got some exciting news – my X-carve is here! That means I’ve got custom wood signs and more coming soon, and I’ll be opening an online shop. I’m super duper excited. This little machine is just too cool. I’ve got a ton of projects in mind already, and as usual, the more I make the more new ideas come to me.

I know things have been quiet here on the blog lately. We did a ton of traveling this summer. It was great, but I’m excited to be back and excited to get working. Before summer started I was seeing posts from some of my favorite bloggers that were usuing their x-carves and I got so inspired! If you want to see what I’m talking about, follow #inventables on Instagram. Follow me too while you are there ;). I started thinking of all the things I wanted to do with this thing and ideas just started flowing.
After discussing with my husband starting an online business and selling custom wood signs and more products, we decided to go for it. I got my machine and started working on getting it together. It took a long time for me to figure out all the parts and pieces, but in between trips I was home working on getting this baby all set up. It took almost 20 working hours, and I broke a piece trying to go too fast, but once I replaced it and slowed down, I got everything working.
I watched a ton of videos at Inventables and nervously decided to make my first cut. I used the Easel software from Inventables to design my first project. We have some wonderful friends with a beautiful home on Table Rock Lake. They are always so hospitable and open with their home and it’s my kids favorite trip every year. This summer during our visit, my friends expressed their desire for a “house logo”. Something they could put on coozies and other nick knacks for the house, including a little house marker to hang by the front door. The cool thing is you can open an Easel account even if you don’t have a machine and start designing. It’s fun to play around and design your own projects. I use Easel Pro, but there is a free version available that gives you 4 free days of Pro a month. Start designing yourself here.
After designing the logo, I decided to make the house marker my first project, so I came home and got to work. It’s so fun watching it do it’s thing!
Of course, since this was my first project, I made some mistakes. The power in the whole neighborhood tripped over halfway through and ended the job. So, I tried again. It went much better this time, but right at the very end the drill bit wasn’t tight enough and fell out and dragged across the board.
I decided I still want to try and paint it, but then quickly realized I need practice at that as well, haha. So, lots to work on. I’m going to try one more time with this sign, but for now this one turned out okay for my first carve.
Get specifications on my project and details on my project page at Inventables. I love the little details this machine is able to pull off.
Not only can it carve wood, it can carve a whole host of other things, including metal and acrylics. So stayed tuned and I’ll come back and update here as soon as I get the shop opened for business!
