What Your DIY Mom Wants for Mother’s Day

So, this post is really for my husband.  But don’t worry, you might find it helpful too.  I have posted a couple of DIY beginner tools lists (here) that you’ll need to get started on your own adventure.  But, I haven’t yet talked about all the tools I still want.  I mean, I need…I NEED these tools.  So, on the off chance my husband reads this post, I’m going to walk you through the things that I have next on my list.  In no particular order, here we go. Mother’s Day is NEXT SUNDAY!  How did that happen?

So, first things first.  Go check out what tools I love in my tools for beginning DIYers HERE.

RYOBI Cordless Brad Nailer

This thing is my number one on my wish list. I keep hearing so many things about how great this nailer is from all the builders I know. I actually have an old school, compression nailer that is just so annoying.  It only works about every 4th nail, it is hard to maneuver because of the huge compression tank and cord, it leaves all kinds of marks on my wood from all the missed nails and it is loud as all get out.  This brad nailer, that works with my ONE+ battery, addresses all those issues and I just sit around and dream about all the projects I would do with this baby.  Nailers are great for any sort of trim work, but lately I’ve been using it more on furniture pieces, like my table I’m going to reveal next week.

RYOBI scroll saw

One of the reasons I haven’t ordered the brad nailer yet is because I also need a scroll saw. I used this RYOBI one at a conference last year and was instantly hooked.  I love this thing-it is just too much fun.  Now, my hangup is I have a nailer, although it is truly AWFUL, I have one.  I don’t have a scroll saw.  So I keep going back and forth.  The scroll saw is great for doing all kinds of fun projects like cutting out curved lines in wood and plywood.

More Clamps

I just need more clamps.  Every woodworker does.  I love the Bessey line and I’m guessing that if you have a DIY mom in your life, you can’t go wrong with giving her more clamps.

RIGID Jointer/Planer

I got my RIGID planer a few months ago and I LOVE it.  It cuts my work time down because I sand so much less now.  I love watching the rough boards go through the planer and come out all pretty and clean.  However, now that I’ve tasted how much nicer it is to have clean straight boards, I am now drooling over the jointer.  This is my “one day when I’m a real live woodworker” dream tool.

RYOBI Cordless Router

I’m going to let you in on a little secret…I don’t’ have a router.  In fact, I’ve never even used one.  I think a router would give my pieces that little push that would take them from “nice” to really professional looking furniture.  Once again, I’ve heard that this RYOBI cordless one is very nice and super convenient.

Paintbrushes

Just like clamps, one thing I always need is extra paintbrushes. I go through paintbrushes like candy, and more will always be used.

Extra RYOBI ONE+ Battery and Charger

I’ve been talking about my love for RYOBI ONE+ tools, and anyone that has a couple of these could probably use an extra battery or two. I have two now, and know I would be better off with 4 or even 5.  I would love to have all the tools I need ready to go when I start a project and if I had a few more, I would never have to change or be without battery power.  Score!  This one is the mack daddy, but just one more would be nice too.  Just sayin’.

RYOBI Hand Vac

Okay, this one isn’t so exciting, but if you know me you know that when I’m working on a project my garage because a total pigsty.  Like awful – sawdust everywhere.  I think this little baby would help me stay clean.  Maybe.  I should at least try, right?  I do use my indoor hand vac a lot, and I love the idea of having one in my shop.
