Home Office Makeover -One Room Challenge Week 5
Hello all! ย This is my very first One Room Challenge and I’m so glad I didn’t stress about getting sponsors this time, because WHOA! ย I am so far behind. ย I knew I wasn’t going to finish in time, but I really thought I’d be much further along than this. ย My husband I wanted my husband out of the house and in the home office before summer, but there are 12 schools days left, so nope, haha.
UPDATE – SEE THE FULL REVEAL HERE
If you are new around here, the One Room Challenge (ORC) is a blogger challenge where we are to make over one room in the course of six weeks. ย A big huge thanks to Linda at Calling it Home for hosting. ย Stop by her blog to see the featured and guest bloggers in this rounds ORC.
Here’s what I got accomplished this week – The painting is done and I started on the floor. ย I decided to put down porcelain tile because of the wet feet and pool equipment that come in and out of here. It’s the home office but also the pool house, so lots of water. I also just love tile. ย It’s beautiful and easy to clean and I love the way it feels. ย I picked out tile that looks like hardwood and I can’t wait to see how it turns out. I naively thought I’d be done by today, but again…nope.
The subfloor is in pretty bad shape, so after watching a lot of videos, discussing with a friend who has laid tile and talking to our local hardware store guy, I decided that we needed some Hardibacker cement boards put down first. ย I’m going to write a full post when I’m done about it, but basically it’s taking a while. ย The floor will be much better prepared for tile, but since I’m working by my lonely here, it’s slow going. ย I am SORE, but it’s a good, pass out and sleep hard all night kind of sore.
So, that’s it for this week. Maybe I’ll have them in by next week, but it’s also the end of the school year, so I’m basically living at the school. ย We have super kids day, teacher appreciation (we love those guys), special olympics, summer birthday celebrations, end of year parties and a field trip thrown in. ย I love it all, but I have to keep telling myself to not worry about the office. ย It’s a balancing act, all the time yo! ย But this time of year is the craziest, even more so than Christmas for us. ย But I long for the lazy days of summer. ย Speaking of which, if you are wondering about the pool it looks like this. ย I’m starting to think it may never be done. ย See the before HERE.
Anyway, wish me luck on finishing the flooring this next week! ย Adios for now, thanks so much for stopping by and checking out our Home Office Makeover!
April
Pin for later!ย
April the flooring will be fabulous! I canโt wait for the reveal! I love the direction the space is going in. As a fellow ORC participant itโs been wonderful to gather some fantastic inspiration. Iโd love for you to share your progress at Thoughts of Home on Thursday. Our readers would love to see it. The gathering is at http://www.decortoadore.net
Thank you, I’ll head over to the party. Thanks for letting me know about ti!
You are working so hard! I don’t blame you for being sore. I think tile is a brilliant choice — so smart. Can’t wait to see what you’ve come up with next week!
Thanks Jen, SLOW going but hopefully it’ll be worth it. And, I’m hoping if I do an awesome job, I can convince the Hubs we need to replace all the dirty old carpet with pretty new tile :). Thanks for stopping by!
Thank you for sharing your ORC update at TOHOT!
I look forward to next week’s big reveal! Woo hoo!L
Thanks Laura!
You’ll get it done! Enjoy your kids and it will be finished when it’s finished. You have worked so hard and it is going to be straight up amazing!
Thanks Amy! Speaking of which, off to work, the floor isn’t going to lay itself! ๐
Those cement boards will make your tile laying go much easier, but man are they heavy and a pain to cut! Can’t wait to see those gorgeous tiles in place ๐
Me either Nicole! Won’t be this week, can you believe I’m still not done with the backer board???? I keep telling myself I’m saving thousands (literally) – that’s the only way I’m not throwing in the towel :). Thanks for stopping by!
I wish you ALL the luck! Don’t worry about being slow, I’m sure you’ll do GREAT !! You work really hard on this project
Thanks Winnie!
You have so much on your plate I’m surprised you have had anytime to work on your room. Its looking really good and I love the white shiplap wall.
Thanks Katy!
April, this room is going to be amazing when you’re done. I’m looking forward to the reveal.
Thanks Carrie!
One upside to the room you took on is that it’s out of the house… so if it being incomplete bothers you, it’s pretty easy to look away! lol ๐
Thanks for joining us at Idea Box!! Good luck with the last couple weeks of school.
Thanks, and I totally agree -outta site, outta mind (not really, haha). Thanks for stopping by!
I’m so excited to see the finished project, I know you can do it! I’ll keep checking back even though the ORC is technically completed now… I won’t forget about you! Hang in there April!
Thanks Melissa! I’m excited to, if it ever happens ;). Can’t wait to have a chance to see what you did!
It sounds that you’ve been working so hard and I’m curious a bit about how the last result would turn out.
Me too! I’ve been stopped by construction!
Wow, I can definitely tell your making some very real progress! It looks better already! Taking on makeover projects can be intimidating and requires a lot of dedication and hard work, but it’s so worth it! Nice work! Keep it up!
Thanks Morgan!
The work looks good. How does it finally look after the makeover.
Hi Steve! Thanks for the reminder, I just added in a link to the full reveal post. Been meaning to do this for awhile! Thanks for stopping by.
