Kids Den Update – ORC Week 5

We are redoing our kids den for the One Room Challenge, and it is going to be a fun and functional space!

It’s week 5 of the ORC and although I’m feeling much better than Week 4, I still have quite the busy week ahead.  I have been plucking away at the kids den and now I’m at that stage of fixing baseboards and changing out outlets.  Nothing exciting, but it’s those little things that make a room renovation really come together.

In case you missed it, I’m participating in the One Room Challenge.  This is a bi-annual blogger challenge where we attempt to renovate or redecorate a room in 6 weeks.

Truth be told, I started this room a while back, but the ORC is just the motivation I needed to get it done.  I picked the kids den to remake for this challenge and they are loving their new space.  Here is where we started.

We live in this crazy, dated early 80s ranch in Oklahoma.  It has some great features, and great bones, but needs a lot of TLC.  We love the layout of it, especially the den.  It’s not our main living area, but a space that is perfect for a kids hang out/rec room.  Both of my kids doors, the guest room door and the toy closet open to this room, so it’s perfect for a kids den.  Plus it’s giving me an opportunity to be bold and colorful!  I can’t wait to show you all next week.  I’ve got some big projects coming!

Here is a little review of what has been done so far.

First, we ripped up the carpets and painted the concrete slab underneath.

Next, we scrapped the popcorn ceilings and painted.

I also did some fun door marker paintings.

Lastly, we added a Dog Door in the Wall.
