Master Bedroom Design Plan & Inspiration

I’m excited to share our master bedroom design plan and the rooms that inspired me. Plus, take a peek at what it looks like now!

I am so excited to be starting on our Master Bedroom renovation. The current state of this room leaves a LOT to be desired. And for four years desired I have! This is just a place to sleep now, but I would like for it to feel more like a retreat. Someplace I can go and hide from the kids and dogs I love so much.

When your kids get to a certain age and activities start to take over, you and your spouse can feel like ships passing in the night. I so look forward to the hour or so we usually spend vegging out and watching a show before passing out every night. I know it sounds silly and it’s not everybody’s thing, and that is totally understandable, but I like having this space that is kid free most of the time. If we need to comfort the kids, or have a sleepover with them it’s usually in their rooms or the rec room. This is our space. Our little retreat. And I’m so looking forward to it. Before we get to all that, let’s take a look at what we are dealing with.

It’s a big space. And it’s purple. AKA the purple cave. There are quite a few things I love about this room. The first is the curtains that are a foot too short. They go nicely with the curtain rod that cuts off the angled ceiling. Very nice, if I do say so myself. The sun comes up through those windows, so whatever I decide to do there it will have to block the sun. Hence the black curtains.

I also really love that you can see the flowery boxspring under the mattress. Isn’t that cute? I’m actually getting rid of the box spring all together and building a new platform bed. We got a new mattress last month, it’s so great, but I didn’t buy a new box spring in anticipation of this build.

Lastly, I love the TV in the corner that the vacuum can’t get behind and you can’t really see very well from my side of the bed. I like to guess what’s going on when I watch my shows. Way more fun that way.

After looking through a ton of inspirational photos, I finally decided on a white room. All white. Super modern and sleek. I can’t really pull this off in any other room, so after much debate (in my head) I decided to go for it. Now, let’s get to the fun stuff. The master bedroom design plan!

We’ve always wanted a fireplace in the bedroom but since we don’t have a chimney, we thought a super modern wall hung electric fireplace would be nice to have.

I’ll be using Sherwin Williams Bohemian Lace for the paint and laminate wood plank flooring for the ceiling. I started by picking out rugs and working from them. I ended up with two different sizes of the Safavieh Paris Shag Collection in Ivory and I love them so much I can’t wait to get them put out. Of course, that will be one of the last things I get to do in here. But it’ll keep me motivated ;).

That’s what I’m planning. Next week I’m getting the ball rolling. Here is a list of projects for this room.

Build Bed · Build Nightstands with Built in Charging · Paint · Install Wood Ceiling · Hang TV and Fireplace ·Build TV and Fireplace Surround · Build Coffee Table for Sitting Area · Order Chairs · Make Shades or Curtains
