Hi and welcome!
If you’ve been following along, you may remember that I participate in a monthly create and share. Me and some of my blogging buddies all take the same object (or objects) and see how we can transform it into something new. Last week, we all shared our Holiday stencil project, and this week we have a last minute mini project. Stephanie from Casa Watkins sent me and Stephanie from One Mile Home Style a box of 6 clear ornaments, a magazine rack and 100 clear drinking straws. Wait. What? So, I created some modern wall art. Cause, why not?
So, here is what we came up with in our mini challenge. I have to admit, this one threw me for a loop and I’m still not sure about my project. But, my kids think it’s cool, so it’s hanging around :).
So, like I said I started with this…
I first thought I might do a nativity scene, but I couldn’t think of how to incorporate the ornaments. So, then I thought of breaking up the rack to make a tree similar to my wine barrel tree. But, after breaking it up, I realized there wasn’t enough wood. So, I used the pieces to build a tree and glued them to a leftover piece of particle board.
I wanted to use the ornaments as lights, so I drilled some holes in the board the size of the ornaments.
I had to trim down all the “branches” and cut them at a 45 degree angle to make them resemble a tree.
And then I found a light strand that (luckily) fit perfect through the back.
There was a lot of extra lights, so I just used a lot of duct tape to tape them to the back and now there is kind of a blue-ish glow coming from behind the board. It’s kind of cool looking!
Next I painted the board and the tree. I then wanted to make ornaments out of straws. So, I used some zip ties to make little snowflakes like I found of
icreativeideas here.
I spray painted them white, then used hot glue to glue everything down and there was my tree!!
Also, this little cloth came with the magazine rack, so I glued it on the bottom for the snow ;).
And there it is! Again, not sure about this one, but it was so fun to experiment!
I think had I not been swamped with December craziness, I could have done a little more with my modern wall art, but maybe next month :).
Thanks so much for stopping by and make sure you stop by and see what the other two girls did!
