Outdoor Curtains – A Roundup of Options
Hello and welcome back! The cold weather has me dreaming of being outside. I’ve been sitting and looking out the back door, thinking of how nice it will be to sit out there again. You may remember last year when I shared the beginning of our backyard upgrade. We got the pool done, and a couple of trees that had to come down, but we still have a ton of work to do out here. One of the first things I want to do is to buy some outdoor curtains for the pergola covered porch outside our bedroom. I rounded up a few options I and thought I’d share them with you today.

Since the house is gray and white with black accents, I am having some trouble with what colors to go with out here. I tend to stick to more neutrals, but I am leaning toward adding more color because it is already looking a little washed out.
Because I’m not a huge color risk taker, but I decided I wanted some color out here, my first thought was to do a solid color curtain. There are plenty of options for solid color drapes, from super fancy and pricey like these Restoration Hardware ones. Although they are pricey I love love love that perfect poppy color, and I’m sure the quality is superb.
Or these simple and much more affordable ones from Wal-Mart. They actually have a ton of options and I love this color, although it might be a little too much blue/gray.
Then I thought stripes and there are tons of options for striped curtains. Something like these vertical striped curtains from Amazon were exactly what I was thinking. They are totally beautiful and come in a bunch of colors and I love how they pair with the neutrals in this space.
However, then I saw these horizontal striped ones from Pottery Barn and that is what started my second-guessing. These look so beachy and crisp and I also love them. Plus, the colors we already have on our patio match up with the colors in this picture so I can totally picture these in my space.
However, maybe something a little more sheer would work like these from Plow & Hearth? Not sure about the yellow – but since our house is gray I’m kind of thinking maybe gray, yellow and white would look really good. Plus, I like that they are sheer and they could dress up this space a bit without blocking the view from inside the house.
Another stipe-like option is this one from Ballard Designs, which I kind of LOVE. It’s not really a stripe, but more of a bold border and I’m sorta digging how it’s just a bit funky and different.
Another thing to consider is a super colorful print. I gotta admit, I’m leaning a little more toward a colorful tonight. We will see how I feel over the next couple of weeks. I don’t think would fit with my decor inside, but since we have NO style going on right now on the patio, I could put these super affordable ones from Wal-Mart up and plan around them.
So, in case you are still reading – here’s a little hint. I’m thinking outdoor curtains from Target are going to be the winner. I love the colors and I’m thinking I could use the burnt orange as an accent and maybe paint the rocking chairs the silvery light blue. Yep, these I love.
I also love these from Pier 1, the colors are so bold and bright.
Another place to find outdoor curtains is the online retailer Joss and Main. These might look nice paired with the sheer yellow striped curtains above.
There is also the option for a less colorful, but still super fun print. If I decided to go more neutral and sophisticated out there I’ll probably go for these from The Home Depot. I love the pattern.
Bed, Bath and Beyond also has some great options for outdoor curtains. I like these for a solid color print. They have a nice beachy feel which might compliment the pool really well.
For something totally different, these screen-like curtains from Wayfair are gorgeous.
I happened to spot these on Amazon while looking through and although they look great at night, I’m not sure how much interest they would add during the day. Then I thought, why not line the inside of whatever curtain I decide on with these?? Wouldn’t that be awesome?
And if you don’t like drapes at all, these outdoor roman shades from Wal-Mart might work as well, to add a little interest without going overboard. These would look great on a dark or natural wood pergola.
