Resin Wall Decor – a Unique DIY
Hello Friends! I wanted to share this little resin wall decor piece I made for my friends. Before you keep reading, you should know that I used a CNC machine to cut the letters out of the wood. However, you could use this resin filling technique on any piece that is pre-carved if you don’t have access to a CNC machine.

You may remember Mitch and Melanie from my post about the concrete table I built for them. They are some of our best friends. When I first got my X-Carve I started playing around and this design just sort of came to me, so I decided to give it a try.
First things first, I carved out the board on my CNC machine. You can use a board that is pre-carved or, if you are super talented, you can use a hand router to carve out your piece.

Once carved, I painted the whole thing with Rustoleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint and let it dry. Then I slowly started filing it with resin. I did about 4 layers, letting each layer dry before adding the next.

I made sure to mix the resin throughly for about 5 min and then I used my heat gun to blow out any tiny little bubbles. I did this on each layer.

Once I had all the spaces filled, I put the board back on the CNC machine and cut off a thin layer from the top. You can also do this part with a hand router.

I sanded down any rough spots and then stained the entire board. After the stain dried, I wiped it off the resin parts – it came right off. Then a couple layer of polycrylic over the whole thing to finish it up.

That’s it! Then they hung it in their awesome home.

Let me know if you have any questions!
